Jak and Daxter HD Collection Confirmed

Jak and Daxter HD Collection Confirmed

While Naughty Dog’s magnum opus Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is right around the corner, fans fondly remember where Naughty Dog got its start. Jak and Daxter was one of the PlayStation 2′s premier platformers, and its two sequels helped cement Naughty Dog as storytelling gurus. Rumors of a Jak and Daxter HD collection first started circulating several days ago with a South African game retailer listing. Now, we’ve received official confirmation that such a release is in the works.

At the recent Uncharted 3 press conference in Oslo, Norway, Justin Richmond of Naughty Dog (Game Director of Uncharted 3) revealed that a collection is in the works and will be released sometime in 2012. The collection’s development is in direct response to an immense volume of fan requests for a series re-release. Other than Trophy support, no details (such as stereoscopic 3D support or audio/visual upgrades) have been detailed. The news first broke when the original story (published on a Norwegian games website) was translated via Google Translate.

This announcement comes on the heels of a deluge of HD collections, including The Sly Collection, Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, God of War Origins Collection, and Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD. While some of these re-releases have been better received than others, a Jak collection marks the first time Naughty Dog has delved back into its games library to please faithful fans. If The Sly Collection (another re-release of a classic PS2 platformer series) is any indication, each game in the pack will offer a Platinum Trophy, stereoscopic 3D support, and remastered textures. Whether the collection will be handled in-house by Naughty Dog or is being outsourced to a different third-party developer is yet to be revealed.

The collection will reportedly include HD versions of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, and Jak III. Jak X: Combat Racing will not be offered in the collection.

Stay tuned to Vivid Gamer for more on this story, and be sure to check out the 5 HD collections I’d love to see (one of which is Jak and Daxter). Sound off in the comments if you’re excited to revisit Haven City next year.
