Sony Salutes Gamers, Releases “Michael” Ad

Sony Salutes Gamers, Releases “Michael” Ad

Last week, Kevin Butler tweeted a link to a mysterious video that teased a major announcement on October 5. In the video was hidden a plethora of PlayStation references, including nods to Twisted Metal, LittleBigPlanet, and Metal Gear Solid. Today, the big announcement has been made… but it’s not really an announcement at all. The teaser we received last week was revealed to be part of a longer video that pays homage to PlayStation gamers everywhere.

In the video, a group of diehard PlayStation gamers (selected in secret by Sony awhile back) are cast as characters like Cole MacGrath from inFAMOUS, Nathan Drake from Uncharted, and even Old Snake from Metal Gear Solid 4. As everyone gathers in a dimly lit bar together, they begin to tell tales of their adventures while paying respect to “the one,” whom they could not have done without. Who is “the one?” Well, see for yourself:

To me, this video is incredibly rewarding. As one of the coolest “commercials” I’ve seen in recent memory, all the nods and PlayStation references make me feel both nostalgic and immensely honored to be a part of the gaming history on display. Not everyone may feel this way, but as a guy who got his start with Crash Bandicoot on the PSone, I toss my hat to Sony for giving what’s due to the gamers that brought them this far.

Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you think of the video.
