Xbox Marketplace Update:September 28, 2011

I’m sure most of you are still playing Gears of War 3 but if not, you’ll be happy to know that there are three new releases in the XBLA this week.  Though they’re three sequels it’s nice to know that they’re available as is the second HD rerelease from Capcom this week.

Deal of The Week (Gold Members Only)

September 27 – October 3

  • Might & Magic: Clash Of Heroes (800 pts) – Our own Rebecca Quintana has expressed her love for this title on numerous occasions and it’s easy to see why she enjoys it so much.  In her own words: “It is basically an RPG-Puzzle hybrid in which you have a certain amount of soldiers of various types (with different strengths, weaknesses, and special abilities), which you must stack on the battlefield and rearrange in order to form more powerful chains.  Your enemy will do the same.  Usually, your goal is to defeat the opposition by destroying all his troops before he can destroy yours, although sometimes the game will mix things up with different objectives.  You will also find “puzzle battles,” in which you have the goal to defeat all enemies in a specific number of turns.  It might not sound all that great on paper, but trust me, it is fun, strategic, and incredibly addicting.”
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale (800 pts) – Offers engaging “hack and slash” gameplay, bringing an accessible version of Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition to life.  Travel to the Dalelands of the Forgotten Realms, where the journey begins in the remote Desertsmouth Mountains.  From the sulfuric catacombs of the mines of Tethyamar, to the dizzying heights of the Tower of the Void, Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale delivers an action packed challenge that will satisfy the most seasoned of adventurers.

Games on Demand

  • Resident Evil Code: Veronica X HD – $19.99 – For the first time on this generations consoles, experience this classic in HD. It has been 3 months since the destruction of Raccoon City. Claire Redfield travels to Europe in search of her brother.  Claire infiltrates the Paris laboratory of Umbrella Corporation, but is captured after a heated gun fight. The captured Claire is then sent to Rockfort Island, but shortly after her arrival the island is attacked!  Amidst the chaos, a horde of zombies are released!  Can Claire escape the horrors of the island?
  • Frontlines: Fuel of War – $19.99 - A military-themed infantry and vehicle based, open-world first person shooter.  The newly formed Red Star Alliance, led by Russia and China, clash with Western Coalition (U.S. & the European Union) forces over increasing energy shortages. This sets the stage for a massive conventional apocalypse pitting the biggest military powers against each other as they try to defend their interests and support their collapsing economies.
  • Blur – $39.99 – From the creators of the successful Geometry Wars series comes (sadly) their last major release before their studio (Bizarre Creations) shut down.  This arcade style racer blends the powerups of popular kart racer series with action more akin to Burnout.  A little overpriced at $40 but definitely an experience arcade racers should check out.
  • Crysis 2 – $39.99 – The sequel to Crytek’s popular PC shooter is out on Xbox 360 and brings along with it a revamped version of everything you loved about the first title.  The aliens have returned and it’s up to one super soldier with the help of his nanosuit to stand up for the sake of humanity.

Notable DLC

  • The demo for Tim Schafer and Double Fine’s upcoming Once Upon A Monster is ready for download.  Check out this Sesame Street Kinect title before it releases next month.
