Battlefield 3 Tops 1.5 Million in Pre-Orders

A report from Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia reveals that Battlefield 3 has achieved 1.5 million pre-orders, firmly surpassing Bad Company 2‘s pre-order numbers and showing that while no one expects Battlefield 3 to outsell¬†Modern Warfare 3, the competition might be closer than expected.¬† While Bad Company 2 has sold 9.5 million copies across the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Bhatia expects Battlefield 3 to exceed that.

For the other 1,499,998 people who pre-ordered, I pre-ordered a PS3 and PC copy, Battlefield 3 will also receive the “Back to Karkand” map pack.¬† With a two week head start over Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, EA expects a very strong start but understands that the numbers will drop once Call of Duty launches.

While the game goes on sale October 25, 2011, the open beta will begin September 29, 2011 and two days earlier for those gamers who bought Medal of Honor or pre-ordered Battlefield 3 from EA’s Origin.
