A Vita Free of Constraints

Strangely enough, the PlayStation Vita had not been confirmed as region-free or region-locked.  Until now, gamers had been operating on just the assumption that the portable was region-free because of the PlayStation 3 and PSP’s “region-freeness.”  In a twitter post yesterday, Sony’s President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, was responding to a questioned posed by another Twitter user regarding Vita’s region capabilities when the confirmation came.

This new tidbit of information adds to an already overwhelming new amount of information about the Vita, mostly in part from the Tokyo Game Show.  The Vita will launch in Japan December 17, 2011, and those looking to get their hands on one this year will be forced to import one from Japan.  Although a solid date has yet to be give regarding the handheld’s release in North America, Sony has said it will be early in 2012.
