Nintendo Adds Circle Pad To 3DS

Nintendo Adds Circle Pad To 3DS

As it turns out, this picture is real.  Nintendo has officially confirmed the existence of the attachment in a statement to Kotaku, saying, “We can confirm that Nintendo plans to release the Circle Pad attachment, but Nintendo’s regional subsidiaries will make further announcements about its availability at a later date.”  Rumors have been circulating for days regarding the future of Nintendo’s 3DS getting an additional “circle pad” and the image above from the latest copy of the Japanese magazine Famitsu has the add-on colorfully labeled “SECRET SCOOP.”  The “Circle Pad” will also carry three additional buttons along the side of the device that we can assume will be used for causing additional mayhem in video games that will actually support the device.

The add-on’s release will coincide in Japan with the release of Monster Hunter (tri) 3G and it is unknown what other titles will support the new item once it is released.

Those already on the fence about the 3DS are given another reason to consider waiting for the newest model which could be arriving much earlier than even Nintendo had anticipated, due to the lackluster welcome of the 3DS.  Neither a release date, nor price has been given from Nintendo for the peripheral in the United States.
