Max Payne 3 Coming March 2012

Max Payne 3 Coming March 2012

Fans of the gritty action series Max Payne  have been treated to a slow trickle of information in the last few months, but it seems all that is about to change. Earlier this morning, Rockstar Games announced via its official blog that Max Payne 3 will arrive on store shelves in March 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The game will follow protagonist Max Payne in Sao Paulo as he struggles to clear the demons of his past while protecting the family of a wealthy industrialist from bloodthirsty games. Max Payne 3 will also feature the latest version of the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, and Rockstar is making big promises of what gamers can expect:

A true cross-studio collaboration between Rockstar Games’ global development teams that picks up from where series creator Remedy Entertainment’s Max Payne 2 left off, Max Payne 3 utilizes cutting edge technology for a seamless, cinematic action experience, incorporating the latest advances in Natural Motion physics as well as a brand new iteration of the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, resulting in highly-refined gameplay with an extensive range of realistic weaponry, an intelligent cover system and sophisticated Bullet-Time mechanics.

Rockstar also confirmed that the cinematic single-player campaign will ship alongside a first for the series, multiplayer. Multiplayer in Max Payne 3 will be a deep and rewarding affair, offering a leveling system, strategic loadouts, and clan support. Maps and modes will also dynamically change mid-game for all players, though what this means for gameplay is still unclear. With multiplayer, Rockstar has promised a “thoroughly engrossing” experience.

Max Payne 3 will certainly find an audience in the slow release calendar of next Spring. Fans having been waiting a long time for a third installment, and it seems Rockstar Games is aiming to impress both newcomers and series veterans. Sound off in the comments with your excitement (or ambivalence) for Max Payne 3, and stay tuned to Vivid Gamer for more on Rockstar’s next big release.
