Diablo III Beta: Be Prepared

Diablo III Beta: Be Prepared

The Diablo III Beta is coming soon; most likely, sometime this fall. You need to be prepared by knowing how to opt-in for the beta and what Blizzard’s selection process will be like.

Opting-In

Selecting to opt-in to the Diablo III beta does not guarantee your admission. You are simply letting Blizzard know that you are interested in being a part of the beta.

  1. Log in to your Battle.net account, if you do not have one you can create one for free.
  2. Click “Account,” and then select “Beta Profile Settings.
  3. Check-off all of the beta programs you are interested in and click “Update Preferences;” you can choose StarCraft and Warcraft in addition to Diablo.
  4. Click “Windows” or “Mac” under the system specifications list. This downloads an application to your computer that reads your system specifications and sends it to Blizzard.

That’s it for opting-in. Pretty easy, right?

Selection Process

When it is time for Blizzard to send out the invites, your chance for getting an invite is mostly luck. Blizzard does take your system specifications into account, but they do want a range of systems testing the game. They are not looking for all top-of-the-line computers to be in the beta.

Blizzard typically rolls out invites throughout the course of the beta testing phase. This means that if you do not get picked first, don’t be too upset because you could be picked in the next round of invites. Of course, how many players get picked to be in the beta depends on Blizzard’s testing needs. Not everyone can participate.

In an FAQ released by Blizzard, players will be able to test all five classes and have access to the early stages/dungeons of the game. Blizzard also stated that PvP arenas are not planned to be tested, while the auction house is.

I wish you all luck in getting into the beta! It looks promising.
