Gears of War 3 Season Pass Announced

Gears of War 3 Season Pass Announced

With pricey DLC on the rise and $15 map packs becoming the norm, developers and publishers are beginning to seek alternative price options to entice gamers weeks and months after launch. Rockstar Games was one such publisher, selling theĀ L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass for $12 and offering access to a bevy of challenges, outfits, and upcoming cases. Now, Epic Games has taken a page from Rockstar’s book and announced the Gears of War 3 Season Pass. While the DLC for Gears of War 3 has yet to be detailed, the Season Pass will grant you access to four upcoming content packs for a one-time price of 2400 Microsoft Points ($30). This price will be a 33% savings compared to buying the packs individually, which means you can expect each of the four packs to retail for $15.

Gamers who buy the Season Pass, which will be available at the game’s launch on September 20, will also unlock a Liquid Metal weapon set, granting such weapons as a metallic lancer. The first DLC will be released in November and the other three throughout the next year. While Epic has promised “hours of campaign and multiplayer mayhem”, no concrete details of what we can expect in these packs have been announced. Ponying up $30 for an unknown may seem unpleasant to Gears fans, but previous offerings from other companies have fared well. Whether or not the Gears of War 3 Season Pass becomes a lucrative item for Microsoft and Epic Games remains to be seen.
