Skyrim Will Allow Same-Sex Marriage
When The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim launches on November 11, players will be treated to a level of character interactivity that trumps anything Bethesda Softworks has offered before. We’ve known for some time that the game will allow you to forge relationships with NPCs, extending from simple combat alliances to full-blown marriage. Yesterday on Twitter, Pete Hines (VP of Public Relations and Marketing for Bethesda) was asked whether same-sex marriage would feature in the game. His response confirmed its presence:
Hines later clarified that players would be able to marry any male or female NPC, presumably excluding creatures, monsters, and other NPCs that don’t fall within the ten playable races:
Bethesda’s heart is set on offering the ultimate role-playing experience, so allowing players to engage in the full range of sexuality is a natural fit. Here’s hoping for no media fallout from this announcement, for Skyrim now looks to be a major milestone in the push for true freedom of expression in video games.
