Matte Black Xbox 360 Coming Soon

Matte Black Xbox 360 Coming Soon

Your shiny Xbox 360 console is about to become a bit more valuable. Larry Hryb, better known as XBOX Live’s Major Nelson, has announced that Microsoft will soon be discontinuing the glossy black finish of the Xbox 360 250GB model. Microsoft will be transitioning to a matte black finish for all new Xbox 360 consoles in the coming weeks. On the subject, Hryb confirmed that consumers would not be able to find glossy models except in special circumstances:

“Some of the news outlets that covered it mentioned having a choice between matte and glossy Xbox 360s this holiday . . . that is not the case. We are actively transitioning all our Xbox 360 S consoles to a matte finish. The consoles will start to arrive in stores over the coming weeks, so if you really love the idea of a glossy console don’t wait much longer. Of course, we may still offer a gloss finish on Limited Edition consoles like the upcoming Gears of War 3 Console or the Star Wars Console, but if you have your eye on a glossy black console you don’t have much time left.”

This news should come as a relief to those whose consoles are plagued with fingerprints and obnoxious reflections. However, some people enjoy the shiny nature of a glossy finish. Personally, I like the pristine look of a shiny console but a simple matte black means your game system will probably gel better with room decor. What do you think? Are you excited or bummed about the Xbox 360′s aesthetic change? Let us know in the comments below.
