Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Detailed

Longtime fans of the Metal Gear franchise won’t be disappointed when the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection drops this holiday season. Series director Hideo Kojima clarified the contents of the upcoming PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game yesterday through a series of Twitter posts. While the Japanese and “overseas” releases will be largely the same, the former will not include an HD remake of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Instead, it will come with a voucher code that will allow gamers to download the original Metal Gear Solid. Both territories will receive the special Substance and Subsistence versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 respectively.

The inclusion of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence means that gamers will also be able to access NES classics Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, both of which were key components of this special release. Metal Gear marked the franchise’s debut and the birth of the stealth action genre in 1987. Meanwhile, Subsistence was the first game in the series to feature a player-controlled third-person camera. The special editions of MGS2 and 3 each added a bevy of new content. These bonuses come with the collection alongside Trophy/Achievement support, updated visuals, and remastered audio. Fans of the series are in for a real treat when the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection hits store shelves this November.

To help keep track of all that the collection offers, here’s a detailed list of what each territory will receive:

  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence

  • Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
