Borderlands 2 Details Emerge

The latest issue of Game Informer will be on newsstands soon, and Borderlands 2 makes its debut as this month’s cover story. Some of the details within leaked to the Internet today via Gematsu. While many questions about the game are still up in the air, fans of the first game can look forward to the following when Borderlands 2 launches sometime next year.

  • Co-op adventures will remain a four-player endeavor.
  • Four new treasure hunters will star as the game’s protagonists, with the main characters from the first game now starring as non-playable characters (NPC).
  • One of the new protagonists is named Salvador (pictured above and on the cover of the Game Informer. His class is called “Gunzerker”, and his special ability allows him to dual-wield any weapon in the game. He’s also a stout, bearded fellow.
  • The game will feature dynamic story missions that will propel the narrative forward in different ways depending on whether you succeed or fail.
  • A new form of currency, called Eridium, is being introduced. Eridium will also function as a means of upgrading gun and vehicle stats.
  • Enemy AI has been improved to allow more interaction between foes and better tactical maneuvering.
  • NPC’s will now move around in the game world and players can engage in branching conversations with them.
  • All weapons from the first game will be replaced by new ones. Guns will come in different flavors – colors, style, etc. – based on which manufacturer they were purchased from. Weapons will also support custom decals. Gun crafting is not confirmed.
  • New pickups will grant temporary buffs on the battlefield.
  • The skill trees will function largely the same as in the first game, with three branching paths per class.
