Netflix Now Available on 3DS; 3D Movies Coming Soon

Netflix continues to expand on it’s instant streaming capable devices with the release of the Netflix app ofr the Nintendo 3DS. The free app can be downloaded through the Nintendo 3DS eShop. The big draw to the 3DS is the ability to display the 3D effect without glasses but you won’t find any 3D movies to stream, well not yet anyways.

The app itself reminds me of the PS3’s Netflix design but of course it works a little different with the dual screens. Once in the app the bottom screen will display your queue with the top screen displaying the information about the movie/tv show selected. There is also a search function that can be brought up on the bottom screen to easily find the video you want. Once the video starts streaming you will use the touch screen to pause, fast forward and rewind the video. Here’s a video of Netflix running on the 3DS from engadet.com.

As you can see it is a bit slow for now and I’ve read reports of others having the same issue but it’s probably due to the fact that it is new and a lot of people are probably trying to download the app. IN terms of seeing 3D movies, Nintendo did say that there will be a select lineup of 3-D movies available soon; which probably means we won’t be seeing any 3D movies until the end of the year or even next year, still if it works that would be pretty cool for 3DS owners.
