Gamestop to Refuse Used Copies of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries (Updated)

Gamestop to Refuse Used Copies of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries (Updated)

When it was found out that Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D would not allow you to delete the save, many were worried about resale value. Today, gamers were informed that Gamestop would not accept trade ins for Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. I, personally, was not informed, but upon calling a manger, confirmed this as true. Unlike most rumors, he was oddly certain about this matter.

To drive another nail in the coffin, popular game rental site Gamefly now lists the title as being unavailable to rent. This news comes to us as a shock, considering Super Monkey Ball 3D, which many claim sports a similar feature, can be found for sale and rent on both sites. The same goes for the 2005 puzzle game Zoo Keeper. If you’re worried that you will be stuck with the game, Amazon has your back. Currently, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D can traded in for $18.00.

If you’re worried how much this issue affects the game, you can read our workaround, where I explain what exactly you start with and how much the save issue matters. Do you think Gamestop is being quick to void out Resident Evil, or do you think this response is completely justified? Tell us in the comments.

Update: After closer evaluation Gamestop will resume trade ins starting Wednesday June 29th 2011. The reasoning behind this sudden change was not detailed, but was most likely due to the nature of the game. Many people seem to forget Mercenaries is an arcade title and locks out zero content due to this save system.
