Wii U to Only Support One Wii U Controller

Wii U to Only Support One Wii U Controller

Nintendo, speaking to journalists, after their E3 2011 press conference said that the new Wii U will only support one Wii U controller. Yes, only one.

Seeing the new Wii U controller during the press conference had the audience oohing and aahing. The Wii U controller can play full Wii games independently from the TV screen, play Wii games on the TV screen as a controller, work as a drawing tablet, make video calls, and more. The revelation, that I’m sure Nintendo was none too happy to reveal, came as a great shock to the journalists in attendance, and now to Nintendo fans anxiously awaiting the Wii U’s arrival.

While I did think the new Wii U controller looked a bit out of place with three to four other Wii-Motes on the video demo, I did not take it literally. Nintendo dropped the ball on this one; at least dual controller support should be viable. Here’s hoping Nintendo will add multiple Wii U controller support in an update to the system post-release.
