DS Lite Price Drops to $99.99, Mario Games Go Red

DS Lite Price Drops to $99.99, Mario Games Go Red

Nintendo have dropped the price of the DS Lite yet again, with the handheld now retailing for only $99.99, effective June 5.  For those of you who don’t own one, or who might have one on its last legs, it might not be a bad idea to pick one up to play all those GBA carts you have squirreled away before the handheld is discontinued for good.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, in regards to the price drop, said:

“From the moment it launched, Nintendo DS Lite hit a sweet spot for consumers in terms of value, experience and fun. This new price point will introduce Nintendo DS Lite to even more consumers.”

Additionally, starting this month, Nintendo is also introducing new red packaging for its DS Mario titles.  The titles featuring the new packaging, with their NPD sales figures, include:

New Super Mario Bros.: more than 9.25 million units
Mario Kart DS: more than 7.40 million units
Super Mario 64 DS: more than 4.34 million units
Mario Party DS: more than 3.27 million units
Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story: more than 1.98 million units
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!: more than 1.01 million units

Of course, the new packaging doesn’t come with any price drops for the games, at least not yet.
