Kinect Hacked to Play Portal 2

Kinect Hacked to Play Portal 2

Portal 2 is a great game but ever since I started playing it I kept wondering what it would be to play it with motion controls. I know not every game works with motion controls but having them for FPS titles like Portal 2 usually enhances the game, at least for me anyways. Since it didn’t ship with motion controls for the 360 or PS3, someone out there hacked their Kinect to play Portal 2.

Brad Cooley, the person who created the hack to play Portal 2, used the FAAST toolkit which allowed him to use gesture based commands for the game. In the video below you can see him using hand movements to aim and fire, while stepping forward and back to move the character.

While the video isn’t all that impressive it does show a lot of potential and I would still like to see Valve release an update which allows for Kinect and PS Move support. There are some levels where the motion controller would be a bit frustrating but I think it would be fun to play Portal 2 with motion controls.

PC gamers can get a chance to play Portal 2 with motion controls when the Razer Hydra releases this summer. The Razer Hydra, a PC motion sensing controller, will release bundled with Portal 2 and will even feature special Sixense TrueMotion levels designed to show off the capabilities of the motion controls. Check out these videos of Portal 2 being played with the Razer Hydra.

The PC controls definitely look interesting along with those special levels. How many of you would like to see Valve add PS Move or Kinect support for Portal 2?
