Mega Man Universe Canceled

Capcom has officially canceled the release of Mega Man Universe for “various reasons.”  As of now it is unsure if the cancellation had anything to do with the Tohoku earthquake or the fact that the designer Keiji Inafune left Capcom.  Capcom has released an apology to all involved.

Mega Man Universe was inspired by the classic Mega Man 2 and was set to be released for XBLA and PSN later this year. Players could control various iterations of Mega Man as he traversed a 3D world across a 2D plane.  Besides the retro-inspired levels, players were supposed to be given a level designer as well.

While it’s disappointing that Mega Man Universe won’t see the light of day, fans can take comfort in the fact that Mega Man Legends 3 is still being worked on for the Nintendo 3DS.  Keep your fingers crossed though because Legends 3 hasn’t been greenlit by Capcom yet.  The project was to be sent in for approval by Capcom last month but as of this point there hasn’t been any word yet.  In the meantime, the Mega Man Legends team is still hard at work including involving fans in the development process.
